The cycleway of 500 kilometres from the hanseatic metropole Hamburg to the biggest island in the Baltic See, Rügen, offers uncountable scenic attractions. The trail is lined with orchards, yellowish blooming rape fields, windmills and sleepy villages.
The first 100 kilometres will guide you through the Duchy of Lauenburg being part of the district Schleswig-Holstein. From Hamburg the way goes directly along the River Elbe to Geesthacht. Following the footsteps of the famous ancient Salt Road along the Elbe-Lübeck-Kanal the way passes Lauenburg, Büchen, Mölln and finally Ratzeburg, Here you will leave the Duchy of Lauenburg and enter the picturesque district Mecklenburg-Vorpommern passing Schwerin, Güstrow, Teterow, Demmin, Stralsund before reaching Rügen.
